Terraforming Luna
by Erica Leslie Weidner
High above us on a clear winter night
the construction crews begin to build,
to grasp that pale white disk
and make her as green as Earth.
The old man’s rocky face glows down upon us
while the gods’ terraforming equipment
makes short work of Luna’s glory.
But they do not call her Luna anymore.
Her name is Galatea,
for she came to life from stone.
Born of a thousand desperate human prayers
and an insatiable lust for the moon.
With astral tools they breathe life and fertility
into the face of her cratered maria.
